Working within the National Disaster Medical System (HHS/ASPR/OPEO), the Michigan-1 Disaster Medical Assistance Team (DMAT) is a group of medical providers and support personnel designed to provide medical care during presidentially declared disasters and national security special events.
DMATs deploy to disaster sites with supplies and equipment necessary to self-support for a period of 72 hours while providing medical care at fixed or temporary medical locations. Teams provide primary health care and/or augment local medical staff. Each DMAT deploys with approximately 50 personnel; however, teams may deploy with any number to providers to supports the assigned mission. In order to accomplish these deployment requirements, each team is authorized to staff 124 personnel.
